The Law on topographic-geodetic and cartographic activity has been amended

 

At today’s plenary session the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Topographic-Geodetic and Cartographic Activity” aimed at improvement of public governance in this sphere and in the system of forming cartographic-geodetic fund, development of the state geodetic networks and the state system of mapping in the interest of economy, defense and national security of the country.

In particular, the law has extended powers of the Government in new spheres of this activity, such as building of a network of satellite surveillance stations for identification of coordinates of topographic objects, identification and establishment of a procedure for application of the coordinates system and the procedure for the national topographic and thematic mapping, etc. In such a way, efficiency of topographic-geodetic and cartographic activity in the interest of public governance and economic activity would be enhanced.  

The Law has also extended powers of a specially authorized central executive body on topographic-geodetic and cartographic activity as regards introduction of perspective directions of national mapping development, ensuring legal protection of property for cartographic information, etc.

Besides, the law stipulates that geodetic, topographic, cartographic, aerocosmic snapshot, surveying and gravimetrical materials, and data formed following topographic-geodetic and cartographic activity at the expense of the state and local budgets, as well as of the budget of the former USSR shall belong to the state property.
